Midnight sun and Autumnal Aurora Adventures
A nature adventure offering midnight sun in the summer and northern Lights in the Autumn, all surrounded by the island and national park. With rich bird and animal life it is a perfect base for a range of outdoor learning programmes.

Sample Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival
- Outbound flights with change in Oslo to Seiland, more than 400km north of the Arctic circle. With more than 2 months where the sun doesn’t set and around 5 months where the Northern Lights can be seen there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy unique phenomenon and explore nature.
- Arrival at Alta Airport, transfer to boat, 1 hour boat-tour to Seiland.
- Welcome to Seiland House, check in and lunch.
- Meeting with info by your guide and staff.
- Get to know the place, learn about geography in the area and how to solve challenges out in the Arctic nature.
- Short visit to the Stone Age settlement and learn about pre-history of Scandinavia after the last Ice Age.
- Time to clean a part of the coastline in front of Seiland House, analysing the found litter/ plastic-waste: where does it comes from, consequences for the bird and animal life. This is an educational activity that give us the opportunity to make them conscience on the protection of the ocean’s life.
- Traditional dinner with local ingredients.
- Evening activities and time to socialize.
Day 2 Sea Fishing
- Walk to the fishing camp.
- The students walk to the seaside camp, where the sea fishing is organised in smaller
groups (4-5 on each boat). There they learn about safety in the boat, how to use the
fishing equipment and the life in the Arctic sea. - Part of the group on land help
preparing an outdoor lunch in the camp: a delicious fish soup with local ingredients. - Here the students will have good chance to observe sea eagles and dolphins.
- Evening-meal at Seiland House.
Day 3 Hiking and wildlife
- Full day hike from Seiland House to one of the three marked mountain tops,
Piggfjellet (405 moh), Gryttind (307 moh) or Vardefjellet (232 moh). - We explore the local area with a survival guide. We look for wildlife – reindeer, Arctic
hare, sea eagle, grouse and other different birds. The students make a lunch-packet
during the breakfast to enjoy on the mountain top with a beautiful fjord view. On the
tour we explore the area and learn about geology, geography and local flora and
fauna in this Arctic climate. - Dinner
- Evening to enjoy midnight sun/look for Northern Lights
Day 4 Canoeing and fishing in the lake “Skarvevann”
- One hour walk along the seaside to the Skarvevann-lake (Aprox. 4 km).
- We stay the full day in the camp by the lake, where students have the chance to
learn how to paddle canoes. We also try freshwater fishing for trout and explore the
area surrounding lake, learning more about flora and fauna in the Arctic.Lunch in the
