Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

  • Airport transport
  • Meet and greet transfer via the Blue lagoon when it is possible to relax in the geothermal mineral rich water before transferring to the accommodation in Reykjavik
  • Accommodation: Reykjavik City Hostel

Day 2: Reykjavik

  • City tour in downtown Reykjavik
  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Hallgrimskirkja (Tower) is a highlight of the Reykjavik skyline our first stop includes a tour of the church followed by a downtown and old harbour walking tour to learn about the capital.
  • Lunch buffet
  • Whales of Iceland (showcase) exhibition.
  • Dinner at hostel

Day 3: Golden Circle Adventure

  • Breakfast at hostel
  • Bus with driver, guide, gas and insurance: Heillisheidi Power Plant
  • Lunch: Fridheimar – a glimpse into greenhouse horticulture which allows vegetables to be grown year round despite cold conditions with the assistance of geothermal heating.
  • Golden Circle (Geysir, Gulfoss and Thingvellir)
  • Dinner at hostel

Day 4: Renewable

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • School of Energy and Research Center from Reykjavik University at RCH will focus on “Making the planet greener”, via renewable energy and sustainable development.
  • Lunch
  • Visit to Laugardalslaug thermal pools in Reykjavik which have been in use for swimming since 1772 using geothermal water from the borehole Laugarnes.
  • Dinner at hostel

Day 5: Glacier Hike/South Shore

  • Breakfast at hostel
  • Glacier hike on Solheimajokul – use crampons and safety equipment for an exciting hike on a glacier whilst learning about their importance and also the threats from global warming.
  • Lunch
  • Visit to Skogar museum and Waterfall
  • Dinner and Night at Skogar Hostel

Day 6: Glacier Hike/South Shore adventure

  • Breakfast at hostel
  • Bus with driver, guide, gas and insurance: South Coast
    Katla Geopark Educational Program – a natural wonderland of active volcanism, glaciers, waterfalls, black beaches and moss covered lava fields.
  • Visit to Iceland’s black sand beaches, Eyjafjallajökull presentation on the volcanic eruption in 2010 that closed European airspace.
  • Visit to Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Gljufrabui cave.
  • Dinner and night in Hostel.

Day 7: Departure Day

  • Breakfast at hostel
  • Geothermal Resource Park/Planet Earth Exhibition
  • Airport transfer
